Training

Basic Mediation Training:

Basic mediators lead community members through a confidential process that assists businesses, employees, consumers and neighbors resolve their disputes. Mediators are neutral parties who assist others in resolving conflict in mediation. The participants will acquire skills in communication, negotiation and problem solving. Upon completion of the trainings, participants interested in becoming volunteer mediators with the center can take additional apprenticeship components.

Domestic Mediation Training:

After attending the Basic Mediation Training and completing apprenticeship hours, a mediator can attend Domestic Mediation Training. Domestic mediators assist families in resolving conflict through mediation. The training will prepare mediators to assist community members in resolving conflicts that occur in divorce, custody, parenting, and other family issues. Topics include: process of divorce, assessing power imbalances, and assisting parties though mediation in an emotionally charged atmosphere.

Specialty and advanced trainings:

The Center provides training for advanced mediators in areas such as foreclosure and ethics.  Volunteers are also eligible to attend any continuing education opportunities provided by the Center.
